Good news is I have built a monitor system which we can employ at the gig at the moorfoot. Which means that we will be able to hear vocals on stage.
All backing vocals can be in tune and drummers will be able to hear what the fuck is going on for once.
Will be taking that little mixer etc like last time..
Hope rehersals are going well and see yers a saturday. ;D

It was quite a strange set for us...we haven't been rehearsing covers lately and certainly Bish and I have no enthusiasm for them. I know Geezer is keen to keep covers in the set though.
You guys pulled off a good set without Chris. Has he quit or was he indisposed last night?
The sound was great, thanks for keeping on top of everything and bringing beer Muddy, muchas gracias.

You guys pulled off a good set without Chris. Has he quit or was he indisposed last night?. No Chris is a bit busy with his club band on the run up to Christmas. He played in some army bases in Germany last week. Apparently, most of the women soldiers were extremely dykey, and there was lots of strange female/female snogging and groping going on, don't get excited though, apparently it wasn't at all sexy just weird, like a wierd village. I had a real job persuading them to play without Chris, but I knew we could manage. He gives a lot of cues normally so we had to be better organised but we're pleased it seemed to go well.. Buffy sent me loads of messages asking if we were playing on the bill, but I couldn't give her a definite answer, because I had a feeling that Simon was getting cold feet. But to be honest I would have still have done it if it was just three of us.

I think covers have to play a part in our sets. You can winge about them all you like, but until we have at least an hour's worth of our own stuff to play, we have no choice so we may as well play them as best as we can. What we could do with is to work out a couple of new covers at the same time as working on new songs, to keep up our interest (and the audience's interest too).
I'm only the knuckle-dragging hitter of things with the musical ear of a fossilised badger, but if the Fire and Ice of the band ever want to get their arses in gear and do some songwriting, I'm more than happy to work out drum parts in a Luke Warm Water style. Mucous has got about 4 or 5 things on the go, hasn't he? So why don't we try to thrash some of them out early in the new year?

I think you always have to have a small number of covers in the set, because some of the crowd will not have heard all your own stuff and it helps new listeners to enjoy listening with a familiar tune.
It's easy to get carried away when you have a load of own tunes, but you sometimes don't realise that some people need to hear those tunes 2 or 3 times before they will enjoy them. That is why you need a cover or two.

Good advice. Unless you actually enjoy "Play something we know!!!!" heckles.

I'm with Bish on this one (I think); if they can't handle the truth, fuck 'em! They should stay at home or go to see boy-bands.
Seriously though; you're all right, I just lack enthusiasm for doing covers now that we're getting better at writing our own stuff.
I refer you all to Matt's (much) earlier post about doing a misfits song, specfically 'Die, Monster, Die!'. It's not my favourite but at least I'm unlikely to fuck up the words since there are only three different parts to the song!

You have got to always bear in mind that, the name of the game is entertainment. You have to please your crowd. From my point of view there is nothing I would like better than playing Bonzo Dog Band numbers, but the only people who would find it funny would be myself and Winscale.
